Abhijit Ray, Kolkata: Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated at Netaji Indoor Stadium at Kolkata. On Thursday 15th December 2022, the 28th Calcutta International Film Festival started at Netaji Indoors with great fanfare at 4:30 PM. This year’s film festival is like a moon market. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself is in charge ofthe entire event. Amitabh Bachchan reached there with his wife Jaya Bachchan. Other film  celebrities like Shatrughan Sinha, Prasenjit Chatterjee, Arijit Singh.Minister Sobhandev Chattopadhyay felicitated Governor CV Anand Bose at the beginning of the program. MP actor Dev congratulated Amitabh Bachchan. Birbaha Hansda saluted Jaya Bachchan. MLA Soham Chakraborty saluted Sourav Gangopadhyay by wearing a northern garment. MLA Kanchan Mallick felicitated director Mahesh Bhatt.Congratulations given to Shahrukh Khan. Subhashree Gangopadhyay. Prasenjit Chatterjee welcomed Speaker Shri Biman Banerjee and Rani Mukherjee.

During this period, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee came on stage. The  special event started with the lighting of the lamp by Amitabh Bachchan.On the occasion of Amitabh Bachchan’s 80th birthday, this year’s Kolkata film festival has a bit more focus on him. Several of his films will be included in the film festival. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukhopadhyay, Jaya-Amitabh duo’s popular movie ‘Abhiman’ was screened.At the end of the ceremony, the Chief Minister said, ‘I think Amitabh Bachchan should be given the Bharat Ratna. You won’t find icons like this again. He has been working in Indian films for a long time and, he is also a very big as a person. We are grateful to him for his anonymous contribution in Indian cinema.
