Thousand crore rupees credited through student’s credit card in West Bengal-great achievement of Mamata Government

Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:The ‘Student Credit Card’ scheme, the brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been an incredible success. Students of the state are getting huge amount of loans through Student Credit Card. The amount of which has already crossed 1000 crores. If all goes well, the number of student credit card borrowers will exceed 80,000 by mid-January.Ahead of the Assembly Election, the Trinamool Congress manifesto promised a special loan scheme for the students of the state. After winning the election, the Chief Minister launched the ‘Student Credit Card’ scheme for the students. The project was officially launched on June 30. According to government data, more than Tk 105 crore loans have been approved in the last eight months. A total of more than 37 thousand students received loans.According to Nabanna sources, about 21 thousand more students are going to get loan approval this month. A target of approving 21,000 more student loans by January 15 has been taken.Not just student credit cards. The state also plays a leading role in providing loans to Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar schemes. In a discussion with bank staff on Friday, the state government said the loan repayment rate of women’s groups is around 98 per cent. Therefore, lending to these groups should be increased. The state government has proposed to give 6 crore loans to these groups in the state within the next 3 years.The state government has given separate training to 2100 women to coordinate between banks and borrowers. Who are called ‘Banking Sakhi’. The central government has applauded this initiative of the state government.
