Abhijit Ray, Kolkata;Cow politics and Uttar Pradesh are synonymous and cows are luckier than humans there, as always!! Let people die, let not even a cow die of cold. The attitude of the Uttar Pradesh government is somewhat similar. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave strict instructions to the officials to ensure the protection of ‘Gomata’ as the winter progresses. He said, if necessary, self-sufficient cowsheds should be built on PPP model. But cows cannot be allowed to die due to cold.A burning problem in Uttar Pradesh and Gobalaya is stray cows. Even though many people of Gobali worship the cow as mother wisdom, many ‘Gomata’ are homeless. They have no fixed shelter. As a result, they damage farmers’ crops overnight. The farmer has to face loss. To get rid of this problem, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has decided to build cowsheds across the state. The problem is the huge cost of running these cowsheds. But the chief minister is unwilling to give up. Visiting a large Goshala on Wednesday, he told the officials in strict terms that the cows should not be made to suffer in the cold in any way. It should be ensured that all stray cows of the state get a permanent home at least for the winter. That is why cowsheds have to be self-supporting. They have to be connected with CNG or CBG i.e. gas production industry. So that the income of cowsheds increases. So that the income of cowsheds increases. If necessary, agreements should be made with various voluntary organizations. Those contracts will be on PPP model. So that cowsheds are self-sufficient.
It may be noted that the Yogi Adityanath government has already levied a cess of 2 percent on the income of various profit-making organizations, market committees and other traders in the state to build these government goshalas. This cess money is supposed to be used to maintain the cowshed and pay the salaries of the workers.
