Youth wanted in NBW warrant arrested by Cottonpet police,later dies in custody,CID to probe

A 23-year-old labourer booked in a preparation for dacoity case and arrested by Cottonpet police to execute non Bailable Warrant,found dead in a police custody in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased Vinod,resident of Jolly Mohalla was among living with his mother along with three siblings and working as daily wage worker in the KR Market .

Lakshman Nimbargi,DCP, West Division,told reporters that Vinod was booked under preparation of dacoity in 2017 along with four others and he was accused no.4.

Recently the court had issued a non bailable warrant after he jumped bail and the police had secured his arrest.After dinner he went to sleep and was supposed to produced before the court on Thursday.

The incident occurred and came to light at around 3.45 am when station house officer during routine check found him lying motionless and rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead.

As per the rules,a case of custodial death has been registered under section 176 of Cr PC and following the NHRC guidelines the case will be handed over to the CID for further investigations,Mr.Nimbargi, said .

Meanwhile his family members demanded a detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The police took away his mother in the early hours and did not even inform the other members about the death till afternoon,Kumaresh,elder brother of Vinod,said .

The police are not even giving convincing reply saying Vinod died due to heart attack.They are not even allowing us to see the body and taken away the body of the mortuary,he rued .

We demand that the post mortem should be conducted with a team of expert doctors annd under the supervision of magistrate to find out the exact reason behind his death.We will not receive his body till our demands are met,he said .

Meanwhile members of “Slum Women Association” extended the support for the family and demanded the SC ST commission to order a detailed probe about the incident.
