26-year-old lineman electrocuted while repairing a damaged line due to fire in the transformer in Gopalapura of Magadi road on Monday morning.
Senior officer told reporters The deceased Gautham,was on night shift with his colleague Siddarama and based on a complaint of power disruption due to fire in the transformer,the duo reached the spot.
Gautham climbed up the pole to repair the damage line after switching off the power,while the power was on at the another line.
While working he accidentally came in contact with the live wire and electrocuted and fell from the pole.
The severely injured Goutham was rushed to a near-by private hospital where the doctor declared him as brought dead.
Rangaswamy,father of Gautham accused the authorities negligence for the death.He was on night shift and working at 9 am.
No precautionary measures were taken during work and he lost life because of Bescom engineers’ negligence.It is a murder and some people intended to kill him.
There was no safety measures nor safety gear provided.As per the information i received, the incident occurred because an officer ordered switching off power on the wrong electric line”.
He later filed a complaint with the Magadi road police demanding a detailed probe and take stern against those responsible for Gautham’s death..
Shilpa,sister of Gautham alleged that no one from Bescom officials have taken responsibility.His legs were completely burnt,but the officers did not tell us about the serious condition my brother as in.They keep saying that he will recover.It nothing but negligence of the officers.
He is been serving in BESCOM since the last six years and once sustained injuries after getting electrocuted last year.
He was scared and shared his fear with his mother about the danger involved at work place.
BESCOM clarify :
Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) officials said that lineman Gautham died after accidentally suffering an electric shock from a transformer which he went to repair without performing earthing procedures.
Gautham had gone to Gopalapura Police Chowki on Magadi Road at around 9.10 am after receiving a complaint to repair the F–29 feeder, according to Bescom.
“While conducting the repair work,one line of power supply was cut off while the other one was not. As he was working without performing earthing,Gautham died on the way to hospital as he was hit by the power supply from the transformer,”Bescom officials said after a spot inspection.
While the family of the deceased alleged that Gautham was not provided safety gear from Bescom,the officials denied the claims.
“Safety gear like gloves and shoes are provided to all linemen every year and also at other times,if necessary,an official said.
A former employee of the electricity department said that linemen should take adequate measures to delink the three phases of power before taking up repair work of the transformers.
Another lineman,who requested anonymity also said that while the provision of safety gear was an issue before,Bescom has been prompt in issuing the same the last few years.
