Abhijit Ray fromKolkata:Bengalis and the whole country are celebrating Republic Day and Sarasvati Puja simultaneously on Thursday. In Kolkata, on the one hand, as the tricolor has been hoisted in various schools, colleges, educational institutions, the students have organized the worship of Ma Saraswati with fanfare. On the other, Republic Day is being celebrated. Saraswati puja is conducted in almost every locality of Calcutta. People of the locality get together and assemble at the pandal to celebrate the festivity. Mostly, students are enthusiastic about the puja. It is during this puja that students pray to the goddess for their academic success. It is usually the pundit who performs the puja. After the puja is over, prasad is distributed to all.Republic Day 2023 is also being celebratedon the Red Roadof Kolkata. The City of Joy witnessed colorful events like parades, tableau displays to performances by school students etc.Today, many of the foreign guests is also being invited to attend the glorious event of Republic Day celebration. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjeecongratulated everyoneon the occasion ofRepublic Day. The Chief Minister wrote on Twitter, “Wishing you all the best on the 74th Republic Day. The Constitution empowers us, binds us all together. We will all defend the ideals of democracy, justice, freedom, equality.Governor CV Anand Bose, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at Red Road around 10:30 am. The Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Then the ceremony begins. The Governor hoisted the National Flag. The program started with the National Anthem. After that, military parade inclusive of different events of military personnel and police personnel took place. The Kolkata Police bike force also performed special stunts. There was also a tableau of several state government projects.
