wo people killed and four others injured when a speeding SUV lost control and ran over them at the busy court complex junction on Nrupatunga road on Monday afternoon.
The driver of the SUV, later identified as Mohan,48, resident of Yelahanka told the police that he mistakenly pushed the accelerator instead of applying break to stop before the signal and lost control and collided with a series of vehicles moving ahead .
Due to the impact two scooter rider came under the car while one crushed to death on the spot while other sustained multiple injuries .
The deceased have been identified as,Majeed khan,36, Rider of Honda activa,Resident of HBR layout,Dealer in spare parts and Ayyappa 60,Resident of kg Halli, Parking lot manager.
The injured are Riyaz pasha (pillion rider in Honda activa ),Mohammed k Riyaz (rider in pulsar), Mohammed Saleem (Honda activa) ,Sher Gilani , (Honda activa)sustained multiple injuries and taken to hospitals for treatment.
As many as two cars and three bikes were damaged in the accident and other vehicles and motorists escaped narrowly, a Senior officer part of the inspection team, said .
Traffic movement on the busy road was disrupted for sometime when people rushed to the accident spot to have a look,while the Halasurgate traffic reached the spot within few minutes struggle to contain the situation and shift the victims to the hospital and taken the driver into custody and seize the car.
People started accusing the driver of under the influence of alcohol and infuriated after noticing MLA sticker with the name,H Halappa”in the car.
I was coming out of the court complex and saw the car zoom passed me and hit the vehicles in series and crushing them under.It was like a movie scene and very shocking”, Ramesh Kumar, a businessman at chickepet,said .
People around took few seconds to realize what had happened if the SUV had moved few inches more,it resulted in major eventuality,as many people and vehicles were waiting at the junction,he added .
Inquiries revealed that the SUV,Ramu Suresh,Retired forest officer.Resident of Yelahanka is related to MLA Halappa .
The driver was heading to fetch the daughter from KIMS college where she was pursuing her MD,a police officer,said.Mohan was in a hurry to reach the college on time,when the accident occurred.
The Police found that Halappa’s daughter was married off to Suresh’s son and the SUV is having the pass pasted on the car to get some privileges,the MLAs are entitled.
Mohan has been booked under death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving.He was subjected to Medical examination and found he was not drunk,the police said.
