A 55-year-old woman was charred to death in an accidental fire in her room in Malleshwaram on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Mary,a resident of a small room measuring 55 feet in Vellipuram slum in Malleshwaram behind Mantri mall on Monday .
The incident occurred at around 4 pm when Mary was alone in the room.
According to the senior officers present at spot,said, Mary had lit the gas stove to prepare food where the stove was surrounded by groceries,clothes and other materials due to space constrain in the room.
The police suspect Mary’s saree or the other materials surrounding the gas stove caught the fire and soon engulfed the area.
Neighbours on hearing her screams rushed to her help and alerted the fire and emergency services.A fire tender rushed to the spot and doused in the fire on Mary and the house.She was almost charred to death.
The officials rushed her to the KC General hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
The fire and emergency service officials along with BESCOM officials and police are probing further to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
Mary was living in the room along with her daughter Priya who was out on some work at the time of incident.Mary and Priya were selling food on roadside to eke out a living.

In another incident an accidental fire broke out on the eight floor of a commercial building near Jakkur aerodrum on tuesday evening.No casualties were reported.
As around 700 staff members working in the building evacuated to safety soon after fire broke out .
Senior fire officer told reporters, the fire broke out on the top floor of NCC Urban building in front of Jakkur Aerodrome.
Gokul,one of the employees working in the office alerted the fire and emergency officials after noticing the fire .
Four fire vehicles including a water tanker and aerial ladders and bowsers were pressed into service and after three hours of operations the fire was contained .
Furniture and electronic gadgets and other materials in the firm have been gutted.Six fire tenders and 50 staff members of fire and emergency service personnel were deployed to contain the fire.
Though electric short circuit suspected to be the case the officials including a team of FSL,police,electrical in
spectorates are probing to ascertain the exact cause .
