Abhijit Ray,Kolkata: Madhyamgram BJP leader arrested for sexually assaulting minor girl | The incident on Thursday night has caused a lot of unrest in the area. Police said the accused has been identified as Bikash Halder. His house is in the Bidhanpalli area of Madhyamgram. A case has been registered against the accused under the POCSO Act. On Friday, the victim’s statement was taken along with a physical examination.The victim’s family alleged that the accused BJP leader sexually assaulted a 15-year-old minor girl on various pretexts. When the family members asked if they were suspicious of the girl’s behaviour, they came to know about it. After the family lodged a complaint, the accused was arrested. The arrested Vikas is again a former councillor of ward number 24 of the municipality.Locals said he had joined the BJP ahead of the assembly polls. The news of Bikash’s arrest has spread unrest and sensation in the entire area. The ruling party TMC has protested. Nimai Ghosh, chairman of Madhyamgram Municipality, said, “It is a shameful incident. Vikas joined the BJP on the eve of the 2021 assembly elections. He became a counting agent of the BJP in the elections. If such people exists in society, society will suffer.”
