okayukta Police,who have raided the residence of Prashanth Madal,Chief Accountant of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB),have announced that they have seized Rs.6 crore in cash.
The accused has been identified as,Prashanth Madal,advisor & CEO BWSSB and 3 others namely
Surendra S/o Sundhar,Office accountant in A2 Office, 32 Years,Siddesh @ Anil S/o Nagaraju,28 years, A2 relative,Albert Nicola S/o R. Susaidar, 51 Years,Field worker,Employee of Karnataka Aromas Company.
Prashanth was caught red-handed by Lokayukta Police on March 2 while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs.40 lakh, allegedly on behalf of his father Channagiri BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa.
Another Rs 6.1 crore cash has been recovered from the Sanjaynagar residence of V Prashanth Madal,Chief accountant of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB)and son of Channagiri BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa
Karnataka Lokayukta Chief Justice,BS Patil told reporters Under the able guidance of Dr Subramanyeswara Rao,IGP, Karnataka Lokayukta and Ashok K N,Superintendent of Police Bangalore City Division,a successful trap was laid based on the complaint received by Lokayukta Police,Pramod Kumar, DSP,BG,Kumarswamy,Venkatesh PI and other team.
Speaking to the media,Justice Patil said that the Rs 6.1 crore was excluding the Rs 2.2 crore that had been recovered from his father,MLA Madal Virupakshappa’s office in Crescent Nagar in Bengaluru.
We have already arrested a total of 5 people in the case.We have arrested Prashant and the accountant.He said that three persons who had come to give bribe were also arrested.
The investigation is ongoing,and the culprits should be punished while those who have aided them should be held accountable,” he said.
An FIR has been lodged against Prashanth,his accountant and three other individuals who gave bribes.
He demanded a Rs.81 lakh payoff from a contractor for a deal for raw materials needed to manufacture soap and other detergents,” Patil said.
Madal Virupakshappa is the chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (K&SDL).The Lokayukta did not disclose who the complainant was and said that this will be revealed once the investigation is over.
Investigation teams are formed under the supervision of IGP, KLA,Dr A Subramanyeswara Rao and Ashok K N,Superintendent of Police and investigation is taken up in this case to expedite the
investigation in all aspects as it is a high profile case and huge amount involved said Lokayukta Chief Justice BS Patil.
