he Custom officials on Sunday busted a gold smuggling racket and caught a passenger smuggling 1.2 kilograms of gold pieces in the sole of the slippers he was wearing .
The accused was caught by the officials while walking out soon after landing from Bangkok in Indigo flight.
The total value of the seized gold bard estimated to be around Rs.69.4 lakh,the official said.
The officials during random profiling confronted the passenger and asked for the purpose of his visit.He replied that he was visiting the city for medical check up .
However when he did not substantiate his claim through valid medical documents.The officials put him through checks and zeroed in on the footwear which is heavier than usual .
The officials then cut open the sole of the footwear to recover the gold pieces.He was taken into custody to ascertain his network .
