The rural economy must change to make farmer’s life happy: CM Bommai

Dr.Thomas (Special Correspondent)

C hief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the rural economic situation must change for the betterment of the lives of farmers and more investment must be done in agriculture.

The banks play a vital role and this has been discussed with all the bankers.

Speaking at ‘Vijaya Karnataka Super Star Farmer’ here on Monday,he said agriculture will survive if farmers survive and the time has come to formulate farmer-centric programs to fill in strengths in them.

Basic changes have been brought in by launching the programs like the Raitha Vidyanidhi.

According to the agriculture crops, the loan limit had been increased to Rs.5 lakh with a zero percent interest rate.

Through the Raitha Vidyanidhi program, the children of farmers must do higher education and increase their income by doing other professions.

The children in rural areas are very intelligent and they must not be neglected. The farmer’s insurance scheme has been implemented for Rs.180 crore and even in the case of the natural death of any farmer, his family will get insurance of Rs 2 lakh.

Rs.3600 crore revolving fund

The CM to increase the income of farmers,a Rs.300 crore special revolving fund had been created and in case of a crash in the prices of any crops, the government will announce the Minimum Support Price to buy paddy, millet, tur dal,and areca.

The Yashawini scheme has been re-implemented for farmers and created a Rs.3600 crore revolving fund. The millet and jawar are the state food and they are being distributed through PDS for the first time.

The farmer does not belong to any political party

Bommai said farmers don’t belong to any political party but all the parties belonged to them and that must be understood. The entire world is relying on agriculture and farmer.A farmer produces food to carry forward mankind.

The job of fishermen is very hard-working and risky. Similarly, farmers live with the soil. They are also very honest and feed the entire mankind.

Soon after independence, the country would import food from other countries but now food is supplied to 130 crore population.

Farmer has not grown whereas the field of agriculture has grown. He is not getting a profit despite growing the crops.

Agriculture Minister B.C.Patil,Vijaya Karnataka CEO Ranjit Kate,Vice-Chancellor Suresh,Editor Sudarshan, and others were present.
