In a special drive,the CCB officials on Monday conducted simultaneous raids on the shop selling e-cigarettes and foreign brands of cigarettes and seized banned goods worth Rs. 8.9 lakh.
Senior officer told reporters,Based on tip off several teams have been formed who carried the raids on the shops in Koramangala,Mico Layout,Cubbon park,KS Layouts,Pulakeshinagar and Electronic city and seized 681 e-cigarettes and 805 packs of foreign banned E-cigarettes from the shops.
As per the rules sale of e-cigarettes is banned by the union government due to its hazardous impact and health risks among the youth and increasing in addiction since September 2019 under the Prohibition of electronic cigarettes Act .
Similarly ban has also been imposed on the sale of foreign cigarettes as they do not follow the regulations and display statutory warnings on their products.
However despite the ban and regulations the accused continue to sell E-cigarettes unabated sourcing them through the neighboring states,a senior officer,said .
The accused had even advertise about the availability of e cigarettes in many places and make illegal profits and also posing threat to the health .
