lose to the heel of Inspector Suspended for misbehaving with a woman at the station,the Bagaluru police arrested a Head constable attached to Marathahalli police station for abducting a suspect in a poaching case and attempted to extort Rs.40 lakh from him.
Based on a complaint,the Bagaluru police track down the accused HC identified as Harish,the prime accused in the case identified as PSI,Rangesh and his associate Madhav are on the run,Efforts are on the track them down,a senior police officer,said.
The accused head constable based on a tip off apprehended a suspect Ramanji,36,accusing him of trying to sell tiger pelt on March 18.
The accused detained him illegally and took him to a brick factory owned by his father where they tortured him and demanded a ransom of Rs.40 lakh.
The accused PSI Rangesh,had even threatened them at gunpoint and even kept on the forehead of Ramanji to force him to call his father asking him to arrange for the ransom part of the ransom at the earliest.
However suspecting something fishy,the family filed a complaint with the Bagaluru police alleging that Ramanji has been abducted by a gang who are demanding ransom for his release.
The Bagaluru police based on the complaint,swung into action and track down the accused Harish an rescued Ramanji.However Rangesh and his associate managed to escape.
After the Bagaluru police action the accused even filed a case against the accused trying to sell fake tiger pelt to create an alibi.
Reacting to the incident city police Commissioner,CH Pratap Reddy said that a criminal case has been booked against the accused and legal action will be taken.
There are few people who are involved in such activities to tarnish the image of the department.Such people will not be spared and will be dealt with sternly,he said . The role of other officers in the case is also being probed.
The incident occurred close to the heel of Kodigehalli Police Inspector,Rajanna suspended for misbehaving with a woman who approached him to file a complaint.
The accused obtained her number on the pretext of help and started chatting with her and sought sexual favour.Based on the inquiry report,the accused officer has been suspended pending inquiry.
This is not the first time,In January 2022,the Varthur police based on a tip off from wildlife activists arrested a man and seized parakeets which he was trying to sell .
The police instead of registered a case,the accused along with the rescued birds were released.
The wildlife activists taking a strong objection when brought it to the notice of the authorities concerned, the police arrested the accused again and rescued the birds after being pulled up from the authorities.
In a similar incident,the KR Puram police arrested a man trying to sell ivory carvings and python pelt in June 2022 based on a tip off from the wildlife activities.
However instead of arresting under appropriate wildlife act, the police released the accused after inquiry waiting for him to produce the ownership certificate which he claimed to have.So far no progress has been made in this case,so far,sources,said .
It is very unfortunate that the police are making use of the ground work and intelligence gathered by the wildlife activists for their personal ad monetary gain, without having concern for the wildlife,rued the sources who are actively involved in ground work about the wildlife trade to contain the illegal activities .
