Ushering in its 75th year, which also happens to be the year of G20 headed by India, Miranda House organised a two-day International Conference on ‘Startups, Sustainability, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in North East India’. The college plans to incubate student-led startups very soon.Emphasizing on the immense contribution and resources available in the North Eastern Region, Union Minister of State, PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, MoS(I/C), Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences and MoS, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr.Jitendra Singh who inaugurated the conference, talked about the increasing connect of North-eastern Region with the rest of India and more students coming to mainland. He also said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji had visited North East almost 60 times and it shows how the region has been getting due attention in Amrit Kal and India’s 75 years of Independence. He also said that in the Modi Government, there are now almost 9000 startups and more than 100 unicorns of which 36 happen to be women and it shows the gender equal era that we have entered in.He talked about North Eastern Region being an inherent land of innovation and startups and women are taking lead roles in entrepreneurship, scientificinnovation, and sustainability. He talked about more synergy and integration between North Eastern Region and the rest of the country which will guide the overall development. He also said that there are great opportunities in the region of North East in terms of natural resources as we have seen in the case of Himalayan region, Aroma Mission, Ocean Resources and Start up revolution. Hailing Miranda House for appropriately organising this international conference on ‘Startups, Sustainability, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in North East India’. Hecalled upon the students and faculty to gear up for futuristic vision based on traditional knowledge . He also referred to Wise Kiran Program being run by DST and how Mentorship programs for women-led startups can be encouraged.
