B BMP engineers concerned and cab driver have been booked under death due to negligence following the tragic death due to drowning of 23 year old IT Firm employee at KR circle underpass during heavy rains on Sunday afternoon.
Based on the complaint filed by Batula sandeep,the Halasuru gate police charged the BBMP officials for poor maintaince of underpass led to the death and also driver Harish for driving the car inside the underpass while water was gushing.
Sandeep in his complaint said that he was working in IT firm and resident of Pragati nagar in electronic City.
Since it was weekend his grandmother, mother sister and two relatives had come to City from Vijayawada for site seeking.
Sandeep booked the cab and he took his family along on Sunday morning.They visited Lalbagh,bull temple and Iskcon temple before coming to cubbon park.
While returning home heavy rain started and the car came near the underpass, the driver despite knowing water gushing in followed an autorickshaw and a car stuck in the water.
He tried to switch on the engine and try to open the door but in vain.He later broke the window glass to and for on top to shout and get some help.
Meanwhile the water gushed in and bhanu Rekha sitting at the backseat panicked and gulped water
By the time fire and emergency service personnel and public rescued them .
Bhanu Rekha was unconscious and taken to the hospital.The doctor after examination declared her dead
The bbmp officials concerned failed to maintain underpass which led to the death and also the negligence of the car driver,sandeep said in his complaint.
The police now questioned the cab driver and summoned the bbmp officials concerned to question and record their statements.
Meanwhile Public TV reporter Nagesh Naik and driver Vijay Kumar risked their life to save six members who were trapped inside a car that was almost sinking in the marooned underpass at KR Circle on Sunday.
A software professional,Bhanurekha,died in the tragedy while her family members were rescued from the underpass.
The whole rescue mission was played out on television live which sent shockwaves among those who were watching how the IT City was reduced to death traps in just one rain.
Kumar along with the reporter Nagesh and cameraman Aviraj was out on duty filming the marooned road in front of Lokayukta office at KR Circle when he heard screams from the underpass.
They immediately rushed to the underpass and what they saw was nothing less than a horror–car right in the heart of the city was drowning in the water clogged underpass.
Although there were three of them,Kumar was the only person who knew swimming.He waded through the neck-deep water in the underpass and pulled out one of the passengers from the car.
Later, he pulled six from the car and screamed for the help from passersby.But to his shock,Bhanurekha was still trapped inside the car and he pulled her by her hair as the car doors were jammed due to water clogging. She was pulled out with the help of car driver.
Meanwhile,Nagesh Naik immediately dialed fire and emergency service,who rushed to the spot.They gave life jackets and they rushed Bhanurekha to St Martha’s Hospital.But she succumbed.
Recognizing Kumar’s outstanding efforts,BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath felicitated him on Monday.
