hief Minister Siddaramaiah said that Jawaharlal Nehru,the first Prime Minister of the country,was a great democrat.
He was speaking to reporters today on the occasion of the 59th death anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru by paying floral tributes to his portrait at his statue in Vidhana Soudha premises.
Jawaharlal Nehru played a major role in modernizing independent India for 17 years as the country’s first post-independence Prime Minister.He is hence called the Architect of Modern India .
As the Prime Minister of a country which was looted and left behind by the British,he developed it in many spheres,he said.
Foundation for Modernity
Our Government will continue the development work on the foundation laid by Jawahala Nehru.He laid the foundation of democracy,development and modernity for this country.
Subhash Chandra Bose,Vallabhbhai Patel,Jawaharlal Nehru,Chandrasekhar Azad,Lal Bahadur Shastri were all actively involved with Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle.
Nehru was also imprisoned for nearly nine years.He also said that Nehru’s family made great sacrifices for the country’s freedom and development.
Sacrifices should be remembered
Noting that Nehru is being criticized by the opposition, the CM said that we should remember the sacrifices made for the country.He said that he is an inspiration to everyone.
