Today, Hyderabad: Telangana achieved another feat. It stands at the top in the country in environmental friendly programs like forest growth, municipal solid waste management, sewage treatment etc. In the context of the World Environment Day on Monday, the report released by the Center for Science and Environment (CSE) titled ‘State of States Environment’ revealed this. While all 29 states in the country were ranked, Telangana topped with 7.213 points. Rajasthan is at the last position with 2.757 points. The remaining 27 states scored 3 to 7 points. Telangana is followed by Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh respectively. Northeast states which are leading in the growth of greenery are in the last 10 positions this time. Out of the total 10 points, maximum 3 points are given to percentage of forests, 1.5 points to solid waste treatment, 1.5 points to sewage treatment, 1 point to increase non-conventional energy-based production capacity, 1 point to decrease pollution of river basins, and 1 point each to groundwater and water resources.
The founder of ‘Green India Challenge’, MP Joginapally Santoshkumar said that the greenery is growing in Telangana with the extraordinary vision of Chief Minister KCR. He expressed happiness over Telangana getting the first position in the CSE report.

Ministers KTR and Indrakaran Reddy expressed happiness over Telangana’s top position in the CSE report. He described it as recognition of CM KCR’s commitment to the environment. It was mentioned that the state has achieved another rare honor during the decade celebrations. We have planted around 273 crore saplings in Haritahara in nine years. The forest area in the state in 2015-16 was 19,854 sq km. While… it has now increased to 26,969 sq. km. By generating 24 megawatts of electricity from waste in Hyderabad, we stood second in this field in the country. In 2014, solar power generation in the state was 74 megawatts, but today it has reached 5,865 megawatts,’ explained KTR. This recognition is the result of forest restoration through greening. According to the Forest Survey of India 2021 report, the forest area in the state is 6.85 percent, while the overall green cover of the state is 7.
