Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:-Ever since coming to power at the Centre, the Modi government has laid emphasis on protecting ‘Gomata’. But now the same government has decided to sell live cattle and cattle abroad. Some ORGANISATIONS of BJP-RSS have raised objections. There are also animal-loving organizations. The Centre has finally backtracked on the initiative to import and export animals like cattle, buffaloes, horses, and donkeys by introducing a new bill in Parliament. The draft bill is being withdrawn, the Livestock Development Ministry said. The Centre had taken the initiative to repeal the 125-year-old law ‘The Livestock Importation Act 1898’. The act was slightly amended in 2001 during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee regime. However, earlier this month, it was asked for comments on the possibility of further changes. The draft bill was issued. It is said to give your opinion within 10 days. But seeing the details of the bill, the protest started. “The Livestock and Livestock Products (Importation and Exportation) Bill, 2023” should not be brought. An animal-loving organisation in Pune took to the streets in protest.
