On the occasion of international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking,Director General and Inspector General of Police,Dr.Alok Mohan inaugurated a one day workshop on investigating NDPS cases for police officers of Karnataka today at CID Headquarters in Bengaluru on Monday .
The workshop covered topics including Legal aspects of NDPS cases,Handling and analysis of samples in NDPS cases,Investigation of NDPS cases,the global scenario of drugs and Investigation of the dark web and Crypto currencies.
The workshop also covers a special session on rehabilitating drug addicts and treatment,making the program unique.
The program was attended by over 100 participants from C.E.N (Cybercrimes,Economic Offences & Narcotics Police stations) from districts and Commissionerate of Karnataka.
Speaking after the inauguration Mr.Alok Mohan told reporters,“We are fighting the unending battle of Narcotics which is the main source of funding for anti-social elements,and it is our collective responsibility to make the life of drug peddlers difficult to operate in Karnataka.
We live in an age where knowledge is considered power, and I urge everyone here to work towards acquiring it he added.
Explaining the objective of the workshop,Director General of Police,Dr.MA,Saleem,said that work shop will unable enhanced understanding of the legal aspects related to the global drug situation,including emerging trends and challenges.
The workshop will also highlight the need of Promoting cooperation and collaboration among government departments in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
Identifying effective prevention strategies and promoting evidence-based interventions and Exploring comprehensive approaches to treatment,rehabilitation, and harm reduction.
“The need of the hour is to identify the source and peddlers and investigate the cases following standard procedures.
Sharing of information among various agencies plays a critical role in handling NDPS cases.This workshop has been organised with various contemporary topics that are crucial for law enforcement agencies.”Mr.Saleem, said .
Meanwhile the city police commissioner B.Dayananda said that the city police also geared up and launched special drive to tackle drug related cases effectively .
Since 2022 to June this year,the city police have registered 6191 cases under NDPS and arrested 7723 people including 159 Foreign Nationals.
A total number of 943 peddlers have also been booked and legal action initiated against 5248 consumers .
Elaborating on the seizure,Mr.Dayananda,said that the 6261 kilos of drugs have been seized during this period which estimated to worth around Rs. 117 crore .
Among the seized drugs Marijuana topped the list with 6074 kilos seized from in and around the city .
Apart from this the police have also seized 5.5 kilos of Marijuana oil extract,2.5 kilos of brown sugar,15.6 kilos of Opium,52.6 kilos of MDMA,109.9 kilos of Synthetic drugs,3406 tablets and 1374 LSD strips.
Since last one month,a special drive against the drug
abuse and tobacco products has been launched and police cracked the whip on shops selling tobacco products in and around the city .
The police officials also visited schools and colleges to conduct awareness program about the ill effect of the drugs.
As part of #WorldDrugDay, Special Awareness Drives were held in Educational Institutions across the city.
1️⃣7️⃣3️⃣,3️⃣5️⃣7️⃣ students across 6⃣8️⃣0️⃣ Institutions were made aware of the ill effects of drug-abuse and the NDPS act. 6️⃣1️⃣8️⃣ officers across all ranks took part in the awareness drives to empower our youth to make informed decisions for a healthier & a happier society.
The city traffic police also launched a NDPS portal which having database of drug peddlers and details of the NDPS cases .
This will help police officials to get required information while dealing with the NDPS cases at one click .
The city police also took e-oath on the occasion “Say yes to life no to drugs” sought public help to fight against social evil .
