Canada is introducing a new program to allow American H-1B visa holders (H 1B Visa) to come and work in their country.
Ottawa: The government of Canada has given good news to H-1B visa holders working in America. The country’s immigration minister, Sean Fraser, has revealed that 10,000 H-1B visa holders are setting up an open work-permit to allow them to come to their country and work. Moreover, under this program, the family members of H-1B visa holders will be allowed to study and work, he said. To this extent, the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Services of Canada has released an official statement.
Some high-tech companies are operating on a large scale in both the USA and Canada. Thousands of employees are working in these companies. Most of them are H-1B Visa Holders. As of July 16, 2023, those working in the United States on H-1B visas and family members accompanying these visa holders may apply to come to Canada,” the statement said.
Under this new program, the approved H-1B visa holders will get an Open Work Permit for a period of three years. Canada’s Immigration Department has revealed that they will be able to work anywhere in Canada, with any employer. Further, their spouses and dependents can also apply for a temporary resident visa to work or study in Canada. Immigration Minister Fraser revealed that this immigration stream will be made available by the end of this year. However, he did not clarify who is eligible to apply under this stream.
H-1B visas are issued to foreigners to enable them to work in America in some special fields including technology. Most of them are Indians. However, these H-1B visa holders are facing serious difficulties as many companies have taken layoffs in the United States recently. All of them have to find other jobs if they want to continue in America. Experts are of the opinion that this Canada offer is a useful opportunity for such people.
