The Girinagar police on Wednesday cracked an abduction and extortion case and arrested an autorickshaw driver and his associates for kidnapping a city based advocate and robbing Rs.20,000 from him on June 19.
The victim,Ashok,native of Shanti Grama in Hassan returned to city on late night of June 19.While he was walking towards the house the accused in an autorickshaw confronted him at around 2.45 am.
The accused on the pretext of asking address,pulled him into the vehicle drove towards NICE road to extort money.
When the accused realized that Mr.Ashok had Rs.200, they forced him to call his friends and demand money on the pretext of medical emergency.
The accused managed to collect Rs.20,000 and dropped him near Ravishankar Guriji Ashram and escaped after taking away his mobile phone.
The accused even threatened Mr.Ashok with dire consequences not to inform police .
Based on the complaint,the Girinagar police have registered a case of kidnapping and extortion and track down the accused through the money transaction trail.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody while efforts are on to track down the other three accused who are on the run.
