Bengaluru: Van carrying tomatoes worth Rs 2 lakh robbed by gang in RMC Yard

In a shocking incident, a vehicle carrying a substantial load of tomatoes, weighing approximately 2,000 kg, was targeted and robbed by unidentified miscreants in Bengaluru.

Close to the heel of Rs.2.7 lakh worth tomatoes stolen from farming land in Belur taluk on Tuesday,A gang of three hijacked two tonnes of tomato laden truck on the pretext of road rage in Chikkajala on Saturday.

The accused followed the truck assaulted the farmer and abducted him accusing of damaging their car and demanded compensation .

When the trio realized the farmer did not have money , they pushed him out of the vehicle and sped away with the truck loaded with 250 crates of tomatoes .

Based on the complaint,the RMC Yard police have taken up a case of assault and robbery and efforts are on to track down the accused .

The police suspect that the incident is not intentional but accidental as the truck was loaded with tomatoes and the accused were demanding money.

Since they failed to get the desired money,they decided to take away the truck,a senior officer,said .

The victim from Hiriyur was transporting the load from his hometown to Kolar on Saturday.While on the way, the accused followed the truck and intercepted the vehicle near RMC yard accusing him of damaging their car and rash and negligent manner .

When the farmer tried to reason with them, the trio assaulted him before taking control of the truck and drove towards Chikkajala,demanding money for the repair .

Realizing that he did not have required money, the accused dumped the farmer on roadside and sped away along with the vehicle .

The police based on the complaint obtained some clues about the accused based on the CCTV footage and efforts are on to track them down.
