What if the largest democracy has no place in the Security Council?
UN should reflect the new world: Modi
Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has objected that the United Nations Security Council does not reflect the changing world. He concluded that it would not be complete without India. He also mentioned the issue in an interview given to the French magazine Les Echos before leaving for a two-day trip to France. ‘How can the Security Council claim to represent the world without giving permanent membership to the largest democracy? How can it speak for the world? India is now the most important country. Permanent membership in the council is our right. Achieving this is not a matter of prestige. Due to the irregular membership system, there is no transparency in the decisions taken by it. There are no perfect solutions to the problems the world is currently facing. It is clear to many countries what kind of changes should take place in the council and what role India should play. Hence it should reflect the changing world. The world’s largest democracy should be given its due place. The rights of poor countries have been written down for a long time. Not respecting the spirit of democracy. As a result, outrage is increasing in those countries,” Modi clarified.
Not war.. Yoga was given
Modi believes that Russia-Ukraine war has become a burden for poor countries. He called for an immediate end to the war through negotiations and diplomacy. He said that even as we think we are recovering from the Covid epidemic, we are facing challenges like power shortage, food crisis, economic depression and inflation due to the war. ‘This is not an era of wars. India never promotes war. Does not export war and oppression. Yoga, Ayurveda, Spirituality, Science, Mathematics, Astronomy… these are the things that India has shared with the world. Modi made it clear that India will be a part of world peace and development.
The Prime Minister left for France on Thursday. On the invitation of President Macron, he will attend the National Day celebrations of France as the chief guest. Modi will participate in the National Day Parade in Paris on Friday.
