Rowdy sheet will be opened on those involved in road rages: Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda

Taking a serious note on the road rage incidents which is causing a matter of safety concern among the motorists,the city police cracked down on such cases and booking rowdy sheets against the accused.

Taking a serious note on the increasing incidents of road rage incident where miscreants harassing motorists and attacking them on the pretext of extorting from them,B.Dayananda told media persons that he had instructed the officers to open rowdy-sheets against those who are involved.

He further said road rage showing aggression and expressing insensitive behaviour amounts to rowdy behaviour.

Threatening,intimidation and harassing the road users for personal gain not only attract penal action but also needs constant monitoring.

Opening rowdy-sheets against such accused will help the police keep surveillance and monitoring and tracking their activities.

This will also help them to summon to the station and question about their activities regularly.

The officials have already initiated action under this and have opened few rowdy sheets against the accused in the cases reported recently and follow high court guidelines while opening a rowdy-sheet against them.

The spate of road rage incidents and similar posts on social media not only cause safety concern among the motorists travelling alone,but also prompted the RWA groups to put up advisories for their members to install dash board cameras,install suraksha app,not to venture out of the vehicle in case of eventualities and call 112 for emergency response help.

The accused mostly goons from the local areas started this trend to intimidate and threaten owners of the cars to extort money on the pretext of accident.

Though some of them succeeded in intimidating and extorting money,the trend started increasing more and more and getting highlighted in the social media,a senior officer,said,prompting the city police chief to crack the whip,he said.

The RWA members welcomed the police move stating that such strict action hopefully deters the accused from harassing motorists.

Recent incidents of road rage :

In Agust this year : Two persons were arrested in Bengaluru in connection with a road rage incident where they attacked a car carrying a techie and his wife in the Whitefield region of Bengaluru.

The arrested duo has been identified as Murali S, 27,who worked at the tennis court of a local club and his associate Raghu M,31,an electrician.

The incident occurred on the Whitefield main road on August 5 when techie Priyam Dutta and his wife were returning home from work.Priyam Dutta,35,the two youths blocked the path of the car and attempted to break the windshield and windows of the vehicle when the couple refused to step out.

The car was damaged in the attack by the enraged duo who also threatened to kill the couple.The victim uploaded the recorded clip from his dash cam,which went viral prompting the police to take action.

Similarly,in second week of July this year,four bike borne youths smashed the windshield of a car and vandalised the vehicle following a road rage reported in Gunjur,Varthur in Whitefield division.The attack was captured in the dashboard camera of the car.

The trouble began when the car driver honked,seeking way from the bikes that were moving in a zig-zag manner on Gunjur main road.Irked by the honking, a couple of youths blocked their bikes before the car and abused the driver.

At one stage,a biker rammed his vehicle against the car and sensing things going out of hand,the car driver moved from the place.Still,the bikers followed him and again blocked his vehicle near an apartment,where they smashed the windshield and windows of the vehicle.

The entire act was captured in a CCTV installed in the nearby building and the same was uploaded on twitter, tagging city police and seeking legal action against the bikers.
