The immigration authorities are giving a shock to the Indian students who are traveling to America, flying with the joy of getting a seat and visa in the desired educational institution. Some are being sent back from the airport based on their chats on social media posts and bank account transactions. It is estimated that around 500 Indians have been sent back in the last few days. Due to this, the parents of the students who are going for the fall season starting from August and September are worried. Experts and American consulate sources say that a visa is not a certificate given to stay in America until the completion of studies, and if the certificates submitted by the students are found to be incorrect, action can be taken at any time.
If you can’t answer in English..
F-1 visa and boarding pass of the students who landed at the airports will be checked by immigration officials. It is known as ‘Port of Entry’. Not all but occasionally some students are going to which university? Which course to join? Where do you live? Some simple questions like Sources of the American Consulate say that some of them are not able to answer them properly in English. Half of those who are sent back are said to have no basic knowledge of English. If they cannot answer in English, they say that GRE and TOEFL scores will be considered. ‘Not all immigration officials can question and check. They make some of them sit in the rooms and check their phones and laptops. In order to know whether their certificates are genuine or not, they ask threateningly, ‘Are they fake?’
If there are such chats and posts..
WhatsApp chats, posts on social media like Facebook and Instagram, and e-mails are now becoming a barrier for hundreds of students to enter America. Immigration officials look into posts and chats on social media to question anyone they suspect. For example, can I do a part-time job from day one? How to show money required for fees in bank account? How much should consultancies be paid for that? Experts say that if there are conversations with friends about such things, it is certain to send such people back. Hateful posts will be taken seriously.
If there are false certificates..
An unprecedented number of Indian students are going to study in America this year. While 1.90 lakh people went last year, this time 91 thousand people entered the USA during the low demand season (from January to June). They are going from July for the fall season which starts in August and September. It is estimated that 2.50 lakh to 2.70 lakh people will go together this year. A large number of people are going especially from Telugu states. Some believe that the American authorities recently sent back 21 people at once to prevent those with false certificates. Every year, at least 200 people are caught in immigration checks and come back. It is estimated that 500 Indians have already come this year. The discussion started when 21 people were sent back at once,’ said Venkata Raghavareddy, manager of a Hyderabad-based consultancy. “Students certify at the time of visa grant that all the documents we submit are genuine. If they have false documents, they will be sent back,’ say American consulate officials.
These are precautions..
Experts and American Consulate sources suggest that students going to America or other countries should take adequate precautions.
- No false documents should be submitted for visa grant.
- Do not work illegally in the US. Chatting on such things should not be done.
- Hateful and provocative posts should not be posted on social media.
- You should know the complete details about the university and the course you are studying. There should be clarity on the topic of where and with whom you will stay while studying.
- Where do you get the money required for tuition fees and other expenses? If taking a bank loan.. those documents should be kept close.
- Fill the details for I-20 on your own instead of relying entirely on consultancies. It increases the awareness of the students to a great extent.
