A 45-year-old man and his 14 -year-old son fear drowned in Boochanahalli lake in Doddabelavangala when they ventured in to plunk lotus flowers to sell in the market for the upcoming Varamahalakshmi festival on Wednesday..
The deceased have been identified as Puttaraju resident of Shantinagar in Doddaballpura and his son Keshav, 14.
Purttaraju according to police is a roadside vendor and started collecting lotus flowers from the pond since yesterday due to the demand.
The deceased had collected 60 flowers from the pond and today also went to the lake along with his son after school hours despite advise from his wife not to take Keshava.
Police suspect Keshav who did not know swimming drowned while plunking the flower and Puttaraju tried to save him also fear drowned.
The incident occurred at around 4.30 pm and came to light late in the evening when wife of Puttaraju noticed duo did not return and tried to call him.
The duo had left their footwear and mobile phone on the bank of the lake before getting into the lake.
While the mobile phone left on the lake bed started raining unattended a villager passing-by picked up the phone.
He alerted the police realising something is amiss.
The Doddabelavangala police inspector Harish and team of fire and emergency service personnel rushed to the spot and searched for the duo but in vain .
The search operations was called off due to bad light and will be continued on Thursday a senior officer told reporters.
