Singapore: Indian origin leader and economist Tharman Shanmugaratnam (66) was sworn in as the President of Singapore on Thursday. He will continue in office for six years. Thurman was the 9th President of Singapore. Chief Justice of Singapore Sundaresh Menon (a man of Indian descent) administered the oath to him in a ceremony held at the famous Istana building with a history of 154 years. In his speech after taking the oath, Thurman said that he will work inclusively with the government, social groups and voluntary organizations.. he will work for an inclusive society. The results of Singapore’s presidential election were released on the 1st of this month. It is noteworthy that Thurman won by counting 70.4 percent of the total 24.8 lakh votes in the election.
