148 year old CoP building to be restored to its old glory at cost of Rs.3 Crore says B Dayananda Commissioner

T he old Bengaluru city police commissioner’s office on Infantry road will be restored to its old glory at a cost of three crore,B Dayananda city police commissioner, said on Sunday.

The 150 year old building is used by lord Cubbon as magistrate court proceedings during the Britsh era.

This has been declared as a heritage site and later converted as city police commissioner’s office.Part of the left unused after a new building was constructed in 2015.

Right from first police commissioner,C.Chandy in 1963 to to 31st police commissioner N S Megharikh the heritage building served as their offices.

Recalling the history,Mr.Dayananda in his post on officials social media,said The 1884 map of Bengaluru shows that the police commissioners heritage office was Lord cubbons seat of administration,known as Cubbon’s Assembly Room,where final verdicts were issued and justice made available for the common man.

This building was Bengaluru’s first institutional set up for justice as Lord Cubbon left India in 1861 and the central prison which is now converted as freedom park,was built only in 1857.

Soon after the construction of the new building, the old structure was proposed to convert into police museum .

The department had submitted a report seeking funds for restoration work ,which has been accorded by the government .

With the announcement, Mr.Dayananda said that they will approach the archaeological experts and restoration agency to conduct a study for the restoration work commence .
