Cauvery water dispute:Kannada outfits call for Bengaluru bandh on Sept 26

Members of sugarcane growers association and Pro Kannada organization called for Bengaluru bandh on Tuesday (September 26)to protest against the government releasing Cauvery water to Tamilnadu.

Kuruburu Shanthakumar,State President of the Sugarcane Growers’ Association,said that the decision to shut down the city to press their demand has been taken on Saturday after the meeting with the pro-kannada and other cultural organizations on Saturday.

A protest march has been organized from town hall to freedom park on Tuesday where thousands of people likely to attend.

He called upon the authorities concerned to give a day holiday for the school and colleges and also called upon the private sector companies and IT BT firms and film industry to extend their support .

The protest is to demand the government to stop releasing the water immediately and also focus on drinking water problems.

The cauvery water issue is not the issue of the farmers but for the entire state and people irrespective of their difference should extend their support,he told the media.

The city police have stepped up security in and around the city since on thursday to ensure law and order after the SC directions to the state to release 5000 Cusecs of water for the next 15 days from Thursday.

In his directions to all the divisional heads,B. Dayananda directed to step up the patrolling in the sensitive areas especially where Tamil Populations are seen more and heightened security measures on state highways NH and major roads especially those connecting the neighbouring Tamilnadu.

TN bound buses and theaters and houses of film personalities should be given a security cover and increase security measures for Ganesh festival and related activities.
