Traffic signal at the busy Nanjappa junction on longford road in Ashoknagar area was rendered useless for the past two days as four unknown men stolen four batteries which were supplying power to the lights, signal and CCTV cameras.
Though the theft occurred in the early hours of Thursday, the incident came to light on Saturday when TMC staff noticed the signal was defunct and alerted the maintenance engineer.
Chethan S,engineer with a private company which taking care of the signal maintenance work,visited the spot and checked to find four batteries with 12 Volts capacities were missing.
Based on the complaint the Ashoknagar police have registered a case of theft and verified the CCTV from in and around the area to find two men stole the batteries at around 4 am.The police are trying to track them down .
Recently battery theft cases reported from Jayanagar and Basaveshwaranagar police station limits.
In February 2022 the Ashoknagar police had arrested a couple Sikandar,30, and his wife Najma,29,residents of Chikkabanavara for stealing around 230 batteries from signal poles across the city.
