• South Western Railway adjudged as the best among all the Zonal Railways and secured first position in performance during Swachhata Pakhwada 2023.
•North Eastern Railway and South Central Railway secured second and third place respectively.
•SWR bags first place for the 2nd consecutive year.
In order to ensure greater participation and more effective outcome of the Pakhwada fortnight, Swachhata Pakhwada awards are provided to each ministry by Ministry of Jal Shakti (nodal Ministry for Swachhata Hi Seva) to field functionaries/attached offices/subordinate organizations for exemplary performance during Pakhwada period.
Based on the evaluation of day-to-day reports,South Western Railway adjudged as best among all the Zonal railways and secured first position in performance during Swachhata Pakhwada, 2023.
North Eastern Railway and South Central Railway secured second and third place respectively.
Swachhata Pakhwada–2023 was launched by Railway Board on 15th September,2023 by administrating Swachhata Pledge at Rail Bhawan,New Delhi.
Swachhata pledge was administered to entire Railway family which includes employees of Railways along with senior officials of Railway Zones and Divisions connected via video conferencing.
The Swachhta Pakhwada programme by Government of India, was a fortnight-long drive observed to ensure mass participation of citizens in Swachhata activities and truly transform Swachch Bharat into a citizen’s movement.
Ministry of Railways had observed the Swachhata Pakhwada from 16.09.2023 to 30.09.2023.Ministry of Railways has extended it suo-moto up to 02nd October and had culminated it with Mahatama Gandhi’s Jayanti.
Swachhata Pakhwada–2023 was launched by South Western Railway by Sanjeev Kishore,General Manager by administering Swachhata Pledge to Officers and staff at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station,Bengaluru on 16.09.2023.
Throughout the period,all the departments of South Western Railway actively participated to magnify the cleanliness activities at Railway stations and other premises.The brief of cleanliness activities performed by South Western Railway are detailed below:
• No.of events performed to create awareness among the public at stations and adjacent premises:- 915
• Total area covered:- 5,27,24,400 Sq m.
• No.of participants who have taken Swachhata Pledge – 23,744.
• No.of trees planted–252.
• Quantity of Plastic removed–17 Tonnes.
• Quantity of Waste collected–22 Tonnes.
• Length of Track cleaned–1,053 km.
Besides the above,South Western Railway has taken up various activities like branding of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ logo and banners on SWR website, announcement on trains/at stations for proper disposals of waste.
To generate passenger awareness,‘Nukkad Nataks’ were organized with the help of NGOs, School children at railway stations.
Cleanliness awareness campaigns were organized on use of bio-toilets, Anti-littering notices displayed,Do/Don’t posters displayed for passengers on cleanliness, Dry and Wet waste bins were provided.
Repair, painting,cleaning and branding of all sanitation assets like litter bins,public toilets,dhalaos,waste transport vehicles,Material Recovery Facility (MRFs) etc.
in the station area,cleaning of railway tracks under the campaign of ‘Har Patri Saaf Suthri’,intensive cleaning of residential premises (Railway Colonies,Retiring/Waiting Rooms, Running Rooms,Rest House and Dormitories canteens,food stalls in and around station premises, Creations like ‘Waste-to-Art’ selfie points etc.were carried out.
Further extensive IEC (Information,Education, Communication) campaigns were carried out through Social Media, Radio & Television,Public Address systems & LED screens at stations to maximize the reach & impact of the drive.
