Trying to search consumer court helpline no. to raise a complaint related to bad service,a 42-year-old home maker lost Rs.1 lakh to online fraudster on Monday.
The victim,Vandana Tiwari,resident of Thanisandra in her complaint to north east cyber crime police said that she had given her favourite sari for dry clean to fabric spa.
The employees damaged the sari and did not even respond to her complaint properly .
Miffed,Vandani decided to approach consumer court and started checking the contact number online to raise complaint .
In her complaint,she found the number mentioned against “Government of India Consumer court”and the person who received her call claimed to help her file the complaint and asked her to download the link to pay a fee of Rs.2 towards the registration and consultation on November 17.
After few second Vandana received a link “ CustomerSupport_c29.apk”on her phone and she clicked to complete the formalities .
The cheating came to light three days later when she got the transaction message on her mobile stating that a sum of Rs.1 lac has been debited from her account .
Shocked Vandana informed her family and checked with the bank to confirm that she had been cheated before filing a complaint with the police.
The police are now trying to track down the accused based on the transactions and the contact number he used .
Police advised people not to entertain any calls from strangers or click any links sent to them.
