n a special driver launched across the city on Thursday,traffic police have registered 708 cases against the vehicles carrying excess school children.
Joint Commissioner of Police for traffic,MN ANucheth, who led the special drive convened meetings with the school managements and parents to create awareness about the SC guidelines on the school vehicles carrying children excessively endangering their lives .
After series of meeting at the 48 locations across comes under the traffic police stations,the police launched a special drive to penalize the violators continue to carry more children than prescribed limit endangering the lives of children.
Such drive will be continue in future to ensure that the guidelines are being followed without fail,Mr.Anucheth, said .
Meanwhile private vehicles owners protested against the special drive and submitted a memorandum to the transport department demanding permit .
Many drivers operating with the private vehicles are harassed by transport department and traffic police by slapping hefty fines.
The officials even though promised to issue permit,not done so far and now the police are asking us to buy bigger vehicles .
We are struggling to eke out a living and cant afford to buy the vehicle and pay EMIs,says Satish Kumar, president of the School vehicles association.
We demand the transport minister to help us as he had promised before election,he added .
