Hijab issue to cover up its failures: Basavaraj Bommai
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai accused the incumbent CM Siddaramaiah for raking up the Hijab issue to cover up the failures of his government as well as for the political gains.
He told reporters here on Saturday that the Hijab was not banned all over the State but not allowed where there is dress code.
The Muslim women are permitted to wear the hijab everywhere. When the Hijab is not banned where is the question of lifting the ban,he questioned.
He said as per the the comprehensive education policy, the school uniform policy came into being but it was brought into effect by the previous government.
Siddaramaiah has spoken about the withdrawal of the Hijab ban order when the case was still pending in the Supreme Court.
The issue has been raised up only for the political gains which would be condemned in the strongest words. While the Belagavi session was on, the CM had announced of giving Rs.10,000 crore to the Minorities.
The current Congress government didn’t have the money for development and this had been told by the Congress MLAs.Some of them have written letters in this regard.
The former CM said there was drought in the State and the women don’t have protection. The government was so bankrupt that it had stopped to the level of making the children to clean toilets.
To cover up all these failures, the Congress leaders were making such statements to mislead people. They did the same thing when the IT raid on a contractor yielded crores of rupees. The incumbent government was not at all interested in development.
The government has a sinister design of creating rift among the kids. This would have great impact in the future. The worst thing of sowing the seed of casteism was being sown by the Congress Party. The people would give a fitting reply to the government which was doing politicking.
Bommai said the Hijab issue was being discussed in the international level and the women in Iran and Iraq have launched a struggle seeking freedom against the Hijab.
What was the need for the CM to make a statement on the row when the apex court was seized of the matter. “I am confident that the court will take note of the same”.
On the use of a private jet by Siddaramaiah and a couple of ministers to travel to Bengaluru from Delhi that too when the state was reeling under severe drought, the former CM wanted Siddaramaiah and his ministers to make self-introspection.
Not official census
Bommai said the state government has not got the caste census officially and so the document to be released by the State Backward Classes Commission was not the caste census.
The Akhila Bharat Lingayat Veerashaiva Mahasabha would organise the conference every year to bring unity in the community.
Asked whether the conference would take a resolution opposing the caste census, the former CM said the census done by the commission was not the caste census but the social and economic condition of people.
The caste census of the other states were being discussed in the Supreme Court. Why the current commision chairman is keeping the ready report.
We are also in favour of the social justice and it is not the property of any one party.Let the government officially order the caste census.
We went a step ahead to do justice to the backward classes. There is a feeling that the present report is not scientific.First let the report come then we see the flaws in it”.
