he year 2023 has witnessed a steep increase in the number of cases registered with a total of 68518 cases compared to 46187 cases reported last year.

Molestation cases in Bengaluru spiked from 731 in 2022 to 1,135 in 2023.The city also recorded a total of 207 murders in the year.

However the police attributed the significant increase to enhanced awareness and initiatives such as suo-motu cases,complaints via the 112 control room, and e-FIRs,initiatives started by them.

As per the statistics,the city police have registered a total number of 3433 cases under NDPS and seized 5387 kilos of drugs worth Rs.103.21 crore .

A total of 4399 people involved in the cases arrested among them 126 were Foreign Nationals .

Some of the important cases,the CCB has cracked includes Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act) invoked against 30-year-old Akhilesh Kumar,a native of Bihar.

The accused was a habitual peddler having as many as six cases of peddling drugs in and around the city against him and confiscated his properties including movable and immovable which he had amassed through his illegal earnings.

The police in this year had destroyed 6425 kilos of drugs worth Rs.111 crore which they had confiscated .

Another major achievement is that the police had booked 92 cases against Foreign Nationals and as many as 247 have been deported back to their respective countries with the help of FRRO.

The police have also track down 99 people who were on the run after jumping bail condition.

Some of the major cases cracked by the city police includes arrest of the accused who was threatening writers and literates in and around the city .

Officials revealed that of the total 207 murders that occurred in the city in 2023, 202 were detected. The top reasons for the murders were:

Sudden provocation.

Illicit affairs.

Family issues, and.

Personal enmity, among others.

Murders for gain saw a steep downfall to two in 2023, compared to 17 the year before.“Rowdy-related” murders,however, jumped to seven in the last year,as opposed to four in 2022.

Robbery:

Robbery cases were at 673 in 2023,with a majority of them -57 percent -consisting of mobile-snatching cases. Chain-snatching was another major contributor, with 153 cases.

Molestation:

Molestation cases spiked from 731 in 2022 to 1,135 in 2023. Police reportedly said this was due to better reporting of cases.

Crimes against Women:

The total number of crimes against women stood at 3,260 cases.Cases related to dowry and cruelty by husband and his relatives made up most of these – with 1,007 cases.

Rape cases stood at 176,of which 115 cases were the result of promises of love or marriage.One three cases were such that the victim was not acquainted with the accused.161 cases were also booked under the Immoral Trafficking Act.

Crimes against Children:

There were a total of 631 crimes against children in 2023,of which,a staggering 560 of them were filed under the POCSO Act.

This is significantly higher than the 480 such cases registered in 2022.

The breakup further consists of six child marriage cases, four child labour cases and 40 cases booked under the Juvenile Justice Act.

The police have started cyber tip day and Patala Garadi programs to create awareness about the cyber crimes .
