DRI officials busted diamond smuggling racket arrested four passengers and seized diamonds and foreign currency total worth of Rs.13.8 Crores

DRI officials on Wednesday busted a smuggling racket and arrested four passengers smuggling diamonds and foreign currency worth total Rs.13.8 crores.

Based on a tip off,the officials intercepted two passengers at Bengaluru and two at Hyderabad airport after they completed the boarding formalities.

The diamonds 8053 carat and 5569 carats are natural and lab grown concealed inside chocolate packets were headed to Dubai,the officials said .

The accused passengers are from chikkaballapura and sources the smuggled items from Mumbai before boarding the flight to be handed over to their contacts in Dubai.

The officials suspect that the accused are part of the racket and further investigation is on to ascertain the network .
