In a swift action the KR Puram police foiled a day light robbery case and arrested a gang of four who posing as officials of Bureau of Indian Standard robbed gold valuables from a Jewellery shop in Bharratahalli and trying to flee the spot on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Sambath Kumar, 55,from Kerala and his associates,Sandeep Sharma,48, from UP,Aravind Kumar,27,from UP and Joshi Thomas, 54 from Kerala.
The accused posing as BIS officials barged into Mahalakshmi Jewels at Bhattarahalli threatened the staff and took away 1.2 kilograms of gold worth Rs.85 lakh on the pretext of verification.
The accused issued a notice to the staff asking the owner to come to their office in Tamil Nadu for inquiry and also seized the DVR .
Suspecting their behavior one of the employee identified as Hemraj,21,tried to stop their SUV but injured in the melee.
The accused even crashed into few vehicles on the road in a bid to escape .
Meanwhile the KR Puram police led by Inspector Manjunath SR,who received the information rushed to the spot and arrested the accused after a hot chase.
Initial probe revealed that Sampath Kumar a habitual offender was arrested earlier by Mandya police in a theft case.
The accused had met the other accused and hatched a plan to identify jewellery shop and rob them.
The prime accused identified as Ravi,is presently on the run and efforts are on to track him down, the police, said .
