The Central Crime Branch officials on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old rowdy-sheeter and his associates for threatening the builders posing as RTI activists to extort money from them.
The accused Rakshith,a habitual offender from Taverekere and his associate who claimed to RTI activist approach Bindu Ventures,a real estate company informing that they are RTI activists and the firm had violated sanction plan of the BBMP.
The accused threatened to file a complaint with the BBMP and demanded ₹ 80 lakh.
Based on the complaint,the CCB officials track down the accused and arrested them.Initial probe revealed that the accused had floated a local organization under the banner Jai Hind and targeting real estate firms and builders to threaten them with violations and demand money.
The accused using similar modus operandi had threatened some builders in Rajajinagar and Vijaya Nagar, the police, said .
The accused Rakshith was involved in a murder case of a RTI activist identified as Venkatesh reported in Taverekere in 2021, the police said .
