Conman hacked WhatsApp account of Software Engineer and cheated him with Rs.98K

Conman hacked into a whatsapp account to cheat a 57-year-old software engineer and made away with ₹ 98,000 .

The incident occurred on Tuesday when BG Srinath, resident of HSR Layout received an whatsapp message from a friend living in US seeking emergency financial help .

Considering the sensitivity of message Mr.Srinath transferred the money through google pay to central bank of India account.

Soon after transferring the money,Srinath got another message seeking more money.Suspecting something amiss,Srinath called his friend to find out that his whatsapp account has been hacked and someone is misusing it .

A senior police officer said that Srinath could have saved the money,if he contacted his friend once before transferring the money.

Based on the complaint the police have registered a case against unknown person under IT act and also under impersonation and cheating for further investigations.

Police have advised the people to cross check before acting on any emergency request online .
