Toy manufacturing unit in Bengaluru raided by BIS seized 35000 toys and other materials

Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS),Bangalore Branch Office on thursday conducted search and seizure operation (RAID) at three premises of Maruthi Internationals which is manufacturing and supply of toys violating the licensing condition.

According to an official release the firm has licence to manufacture and supply Soft toys as per the Indian Standard at only one premise,where firm uses BIS Standards mark (ISI mark) on the toys.

But while search and seizure operation,it was found that firm was allegedly manufacturing and selling the product at three premises with ISI mark.

Govt.of India issued Quality Control Orders (QCOs) to improve the quality of the product in the Indian Market which obligates the manufactures that no product shall be manufactured or sold without BIS licence and not conforming to the respective Indian Standards.

The Govt.of India issued QCOs for the toys and Polyester staples fibres which mandates these products shall conform to IS 9873 part I and IS 17263 : 2022 respectively.

But it was observed that firm was allegedly manufacturing these products without licence and selling them.

Few toys were also found which mentioned MADE IN CHINA without BIS licence with the pretext these are either imported from china or putting the tag.

Huge quantity,about 35000 toys and about 6 packages of polyester staples fibres each weight about 250 kg were found and these are seized.

A team of officials comprising of Narender Reddy Beesu,Scientist E,Rajashekar Karem,Scientist and Vinodini Kishore,Scientist informed that this shall be filed in the court and the team appealed the consumers to check the BIS standard mark (lSI mark) and licence no of the manufacturers before buying any product.

The authenticity of the licence number and the Indian Standard can be verified the consumers through BIS CARE app.

Action would be initiated for filing Criminal Complaint against the above firm for the offences under section l7(3) read with Section 29 of the BIS Act,20l6.

The Act provides for imprisonment for a term which may extend up to two years or with fine which shall not be less than two lakh rupees for the first contravention and not be less than five lakh rupees for the second and subsequent contraventions,but may extend up to ten times the value of goods or articles produced or sold or offered to be sold or affixed or applied with a Standard Mark or with both as decided by the court.

BIS is carrying out search and seizure based on the information of misuse to prevent deception to the public at large by manufacturers of spurious goods.

Any information with regard to misuse of ISI mark on any product may be given to the Bureau,which will be kept strictly confidential, through email or through a letter, the official release, said .
