He said that development has come to a standstill due to unproductive expenditure, exploitation of natural resources for personal gain and stunting of human resource development. It was brought to the notice of the Prime Minister that the revenues are falling and the debts are skyrocketing. He said that the previous government had neglected the Polavaram project, other water resources, roads and capital structures and the state had suffered a lot. He expressed concern that salaries, pensions and debt payments have increased more than the state’s income, due to which the government has run out of financial resources for capital expenditure.
He said that the state government had indiscriminately taken loans by mortgaging the future income on liquor and diverted public funds in a big way. As a result, there is currently no financial resources to meet public needs. The Prime Minister pointed out that it will be difficult to get out of these challenges if the central government does not give financial support.
