C hief Minister Siddaramaiah said that former Deputy Prime Minister Dr.Babu Jagjivanaram,who is known as the pioneer of green revolution,is a great person who provided food security to the people of the country.
He was speaking to the media on Saturday after paying floral tributes at the statue of former Deputy Prime Minister Dr.Babu Jagjivan Ram near the west gate of the Vidhana Soudha on the occasion of his death anniversary.
At the time of independence,there was a severe shortage of food in the country, and there was a situation where we had to ask from other countries.
Jagjivanaram provided food security through many measures including development of new varieties crop.
Jagjivanaram has given efficient administration in any portfolio he worked, including the Ministry of defense.
He is credited with drafting many labour laws in their favour.
He has continuously fought for the poor, farmers and laborers.He said that today we have to resolve to follow the path shown by him.
Bhavan inauguration:
Dr.Babu Jagjivanaram Bhavan,which has been built at a cost Around Rs 3 crore,will be inaugurated on July 13.
Earlier, when our government was in power,the foundation stone for the construction of this building was laid.
He said that science and skill development training will also be provided to eligible candidates in this Bhavan.
*Bharat Rice for Elections:CM’s Criticises
Responding to the journalist’s question about the suspension of “Bharat Rice” scheme started by the central government, he said that it is clear that this scheme has been started for the sake of elections.
When we asked for rice for Annabhagya Yojana,the Food Corporation of India did not provide it even though it had stock.
He said that because the central government deliberately did not provide rice, the situation was created where we had to pay extra money to the people.
