The Gouribidanur police have arrested a 34-year-old habitual offender for stealing Rs.10 lakh cash from a parked car at a hotel near Gouribidanur taluk office on July 8.
Senior officer told reporters,The accused Venugopal,native of Chikkamagalur was involved in similar offence in Shiraguppa and Konanakunte police station limits and the records helped the police to track him down.
The accused along with his associates kept a watch on the people carrying cash and break the wndishelied of the vehicles to steal the cash.
Using this MO,the accused had stolen the cash from the car belonging to H Narayanappa,who was carrying the cash to get the registration of newly purchased property.
Narayanappa had kept the cash and other documents in the car and went to have lunch at the hotel after parking the car.
Based on the complaint,the police analysed the CCTV camera footage from in and around before identifying Venugopal.He was track down at a house in Anantapura where he was staying and recovered seven lakh cash from him.The police are on the lookout for his two associates identified as Sagar and Kumar,who are on the run.
Home Minister,Dr.G Parameshwar and Inspector General of Police, (Central range),Labhuram appreciated the police team for cracking the case .
Police have advised people to take necessary precautionary measures while carrying cash.
