The US has said that it expects Indian Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ukraine to be beneficial.
Modi reached Ukraine’s capital Kiev on Friday morning and met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India is ready to play an active role in every effort to restore peace in Ukraine. He called on Russia and Ukraine to sit and talk without wasting any more time and end the war. Modi said that India is not neutral in the Russia-Ukraine war but is on the side of peace. They inquired about sectors like trade, defence, health services, medicine, agriculture and education.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke to the media about the talks between Modi and Zelensky. He said that Modi emphasized to Zelensky the need for Russia and Ukraine to hold talks with each other to find an innovative solution to establish peace and stability in the region. He said that Ukraine supported India’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.
Modi, who went to Moscow last month, held talks with President Putin about the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that no problem can be solved on the battlefield, anything can be solved only through negotiations and diplomacy. It is advised to take a step forward towards negotiations without wasting any more time.
