The Chikkaballapur police on Wednesday arrested a 29-year-old staff of a private finance company for staging a robbery to pocket Rs.19,000 he had collected from his customers .
The accused Palani Muniratnam,according to the police was addicted to online gambling and incurred huge amount of loan.
In order to repay the loan amount,he hatched a robbery plan and roped his three friends from his home town Chittoor promising share in the money.
The accused had shared the travel details with his associates who waited for him to return with the cash bag with his colleague Mallesh,near Gundlagurki village on August 21.
As per the plan,the accused identified as Palani Chandrashekhar,29,a tyles labourer,Hari Rajamani,31,a carpenter and Ishwar Babu,24,a wall painter,waited on their bikes confronted Palani and Mallesh.
While Mallesh ran away and escaped the trio as per the plan robbed the cash bag and sped away.
Palani later filed a complaint with the Chikkaballapur rural police station .
A team led by Inspector Manjunath M,suspected the role of Palani since he had enough time to escape but could not.More over he was changing the version of his statement again and again following which he was taken into custody for questioning.
A Detailed probe led him to confess to the crime based on which the police arrested the trio and recovered the cash from them.
Palani had expected to collect more money on that day but unfortunately the customers did not pay him, a senior officer,said the accused have been booked under robbery and remanded to judicial custody.
