6 killed,2 injured in head-on collision between 2 cars in Karnataka’s Tumakuru

s many as six people including a 12 year old girl were killed and three others severely injured when two cars collided head on near Keregala palya in madhugiri taluk of Tumakuru district on Sunday night.

The deceased have been identified as Sidhu,12 and her three family members including the car driver Yogesh. The other deceased identified as Nagaraj travelling in another car was also killed .

According to the police while Nagaraj driving the car was heading to madhugiri from Koratagere while Sidhu and her family returning from their home town yettinahal in pavagad to JP nagar in Bengaluru after Ganesha festival.

Due to the impact both the vehicles mangled and passers by along with police struggled to rescue the people trapped in the cars.

Traffic movement was disrupted for sometime until the police removed both the cars.

Police suspect rash and negligent driving could be the reason behind the accident.

Briefing about the accident, Tumakuru superintendent of police (SP) Ashok K V said that the incident occurred near Keregalapalya village of Madhugiri taluk in the district in which Janardhan Reddy, 60, Sindhu Reddy, 33, Vedas Reddy, 12, and Anand, 30, all from Pavgad taluk and Nagaraj, 33, and Siddaganga, 35, from Karenahalli were killed.

He added that all the injured and the deceased were the residents of JP nagar in Bengaluru who had been to Hosakote to celebrate the Ganesh festival. “While on their way back to their native place, the mishap occurred, killing six and injuring five,” the SP said.

The head-on mishap was so severe that both the high-end cars, Nexa and Tiyago, got completely smashed off, SP Ashok said, adding that cranes were used to get out the injured and the deceased.

On Monday,Home Minister,G Parameshwara,ADGP (Traffic and Road Safety),Alok Kumar and IGP-Central Labhuram visited the accident spot.

The minister directed the police to take steps to prevent accidents.On Sunday night,Tumakuru SP,Ashok Venkat, Additional SP,P Mariyappa and the Madhugiri Deputy SP had visited the spot.
