CM Chandrababu: Busse house.. Collectorate Secretariat

Due to heavy rains, Budameru was flooded and many colonies in Vijayawada were submerged. Millions of people have become homeless.

Chandrababu returned home after 10 days of
continuous monitoring of CM’s continuous supervision 
of ministers and officials  for flood victims like a yajna. 

 Amaravati: Due to heavy rains, many colonies in Vijayawada got waterlogged due to Budameru. Millions of people have become homeless. CM Chandrababu responded promptly and changed the Vijayawada Collectorate to the Secretariat for ten days and supervised the relief efforts. He made the bus his home in the collectorate premises, held review meetings from there, sent ministers and officials running, and even at the age of 74, visited the flood areas daily to ensure that the victims got immediate relief. After confirming that the situation in the flood affected areas has improved and the relief efforts are going on at a fast pace, he reached his residence in Undavalli again on Tuesday night after ten days. A senior IAS officer has been appointed for each of 32 divisions and in-charges for 179 secretariats to support the victims. Breakfast, two meals a day, water bottles, milk packets and biscuits were distributed to all the victims for ten days.

Warning of heavy rains

Alarmed by the heavy rains and floods that started on August 30, the CM alerted the authorities and issued orders for relief measures. It has been ordered to release Rs.3 crores to the district for relief and rehabilitation measures. After Budameru flooded Vijayawada, he spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and deployed powerboats, drones, NDRF, SDRF and Navy personnel to intensify the rescue operations. The state government has sent a preliminary report of flood losses to the center at Rs 6,880 crore.

Emergency relief programs

Food parcels, biscuits, water bottles, milk and medical kits were immediately supplied to the people in the flood affected areas by helicopters and drones. Every family was given a kit of essentials. The victims were given cheap vegetables. The Chief Minister monitored in real-time where to send the food from other districts and how to supply it door to door.


Measures to help victims

Apart from providing immediate relief to the people of the flood affected areas, the CM has taken many measures to ensure that they will survive in the long run. A meeting was held with bankers and insurance companies. Urged speedy payment of insurance claims for damaged vehicles. Bankers have been asked to defer EMIs due to people. In order to provide speedy compensation to every house that has been damaged… instructions have been issued to speed up the process of flood damage assessment and collection of details. Five boats hit the Prakasam barrage and the counterweights broke. Kannayyanayu, an expert in barrage gates, was immediately brought in and their installation was completed within a week.
