Mumbai -based film actress Kadambari Jethwani accused three Jagan devotees of IPS officers in the case of illegal arrest. The then Intelligence DG P. Sitharamanjaneu, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kantirana Tatha and Deputy Police Commissioner Vishal Gunni have been suspended by the government. It was the result of the sin of implicating a woman and her family in an illegal case to protect an industrialist who was close to the ‘main’ leader in the previous government. This is the first time in the history of the state that three IPS officers have been suspended simultaneously in a single case. It was found that the conspiracy to arrest the actress was hatched in the Chief Minister’s office. DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has given a comprehensive report to the government that in the case registered at Ibrahimpatnam police station of NTR district, these three IPS officers have acted against the rules and have committed serious misconduct along with abuse of power. It is stated that they have the ability to influence the witnesses and associates in this case. Taking into consideration the DGP’s report, CS Nirabkumar Prasad issued separate orders on Sunday suspending the three. He was ordered not to leave the headquarters without permission from the government. Key points of the DGP report.

Order of arrest without case

Vijayawada CP Kantirana Tatha and DCP Vishal Gunni were called to the CMO by Intelligence DG Sitharamanjaneu on 31 January 2024. Mumbai-based film actress Kadambari Narendrakumar Jethwani should be arrested. There was no case against her then. Records show that the case was registered against her on February 2 at 6.30 am. It is clear that even before the case was registered, the PSR had ordered her arrest. He used his position and power to lead the case based on incomplete information and was instrumental in expediting the investigation without due diligence. This is conspiracy and abuse of power. He committed gross misconduct in the discharge of duty.

Book flight tickets in advance

The then CP Kantirana acted irresponsibly with the DG’s word of mouth. Kantirana was involved in ordering the arrest of Kadambari and booking the flight tickets a day before the registration of the FIR. Failed miserably to supervise the investigation of the case. On January 31, the authorities were directed to arrest Jethwani without thoroughly examining the complaint and conducting a preliminary investigation. The concerned authorities advised his CC to arrange flight tickets to Mumbai. No written instructions were given before a police team was formed and sent to another state to arrest the accused. No foreign passport (permission to fly). On the verbal orders of Kantirana, he booked the flight tickets for DCP Vishal Gunni, ADCP Ramanamurthy, Inspector Sridhar and SSI Sharif to travel on February 1. Still no FIR was registered against Jethwani. According to the instructions of the Commissioner, after the CC, Ibrahimpatnam CI Satyanarayana, RSCI A. Durgadevi, constables Maunika, Ramesh, Gitanjali and Ramya also took flight tickets.

Travel within an hour of the FIR: The then DCP Vishal Gunni committed grave misconduct in the performance of duty by rushing to Mumbai and arresting Jethwani without examining the background of the case for the sole reason that the DG of Intelligence had said it. They also failed to investigate the case properly. The FIR was registered on February 2 at 6.30 am. As pre-arranged, he left for Mumbai at 7.30 in the morning without any written instructions from his superiors and no foreign passport for travel. It is clear that he has taken these actions on the orders of DG and CP. Gunni, who went to Mumbai on official work, did not claim any TA (Transport Allowance). The arrested persons were not given an opportunity to explain. No investigation was done before the arrest of the actress. Without proper evidence and documentary evidence, the entire case was conducted within a few hours of registration of the FIR. This is nothing but disregard of basic principles of investigation.
