CID inspector booked for misusing seized property and failed to handover recovered properties related to 24 cases during his term in JP Nagar Station

A case has been registered against a police inspector, currently with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bengaluru,for allegedly failing to hand over recovered properties related to at least 24 cases during his term at the JP Nagar police station in southern Bengaluru.

The officer in question is Hitendra MS,45,was the police inspector in charge of the JP Nagar police station between 2016 and 2019.

The FIR has been registered based on the complaint filed by the incumbent JP Nagar police inspector Radhakrishna TS,who assumed the charge in April 2022.

According to the FIR,despite asking multiple times, Hitendra failed to hand over the properties,including pen drives,digital evidence,cash,gold ornaments and sensitive documents among other things,recovered related to the cases.

The police became aware of the irregularities when the cases in question came up in the courts.The handover is pending in these 24 specific cases,”.

The police was despite the Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) issuing a notice to Hitendra on May 22, 2024,the erring officer failed to issue a response.This prompted the DCP to initiate further proceedings.

“Since there is misuse of properties that were recovered by not handing them over to the succeeding officer, necessary legal action has to be initiated against the said officer,”the FIR based on Radhakrishna’s complaint noted.

Police have registered the case under section 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant)of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).Further probe is on, senior officer said.
